The spinal cord stimulation procedure uses an electrical current to treat chronic pain. A small pulse generator, implanted in the back, sends electrical pulses to the spinal cord. These pulses scramble the pain signal so the patient senses less pain.
The Intrathecal drug delivery system involves implanting a small pump that delivers medication directly to the spinal cord, where pain signals travel. Often times, these spinal drug delivery systems are prescribed for individuals suffering from cancer pain.
